** The Tony Glavin U14 Girls White Team wrapped up a successful fall session with a strong semi-final finish in the Panathinaikos Adidas Cup. This team has continued to demonstrate a strong work ethic while improving their individual skills and team play. We look forward to future challenges as we prepare for the spring session and tournaments.
*** The Tony Glavin U14 Girls Green Team spent the week of July 19-23 in Blaine, Minnesota competing in the Schwan’s USA Cup. This is one of the largest tournaments in the western hemisphere and hosts teams from countries all around the world. This year the tournament showcased 950 teams that represented 25 states and 16 countries. We were one of two teams from Missouri and the only team from the Tony Glavin SC to participate this year. The team played exceptionally well and were a great representative of our club. Despite playing five games in six days, in temperatures that bordered 100 degrees, the team competed at a very high level.
The team earned a spot in the championship game late Saturday by winning the semi-final game 2-0, earlier that same day. Unfortunately, after a physically demanding and well-played game by both teams, our team ultimately lost the championships by a score of 2-1. The coaches and parents were extremely proud of the players for their work ethic, attitude, and effort throughout the entire week. This tournament was a wonderful experience and something this group of players can remember for the rest of their lives.
